My no. 1 rule is to taste whenever I can and as often as I can. Everyone’s tastes vary, mine change all the time, and how you feel and where you are influence greatly the taste of wine. So have fun and enjoy the time opening the bottle, pouring and drinking with family and friends. There really is nothing better.
I go to professional tasting events and trade fairs throughout Europe to taste, discuss, select and buy new wines for TheWinePlace.es. Each new selection of is the result of tasting literally hundreds of different wines.
In the first three months of each year there are many tastings to attend where I can evaluate the southern hemisphere wines which by this time should be near their peaks and at the same time get a feel for the soon to be released northern hemisphere wines, which in most cases are still tight and closed needing more time to blossom.
People often ask if I get tired of tasting. The answer is no. While a lot of us are enthusiastic about new flavours, grape varieties and style, we are often less adventurous in our day to day choices. We prefer something familiar. For that reason I have chosen wines that show the best of each grape variety and the country.
