Rugby was introduced in 1870 by European settlers.\u00a0 The indigenous Maori tribes game played their own sport with a ball.\u00a0 The flamboyant mix of strength, speed and skill, that makes the New Zealand All Blacks so formidable, is a result of the European and Maori\u2019s making the most of each others strengths.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first grapes were probably planted around the time the european settlers arrived in the 1800\u2019s but it was just over 100 years laters during the 1970\u2019s when the first Sauvignon Blanc grapes were planted Marlborough, New Zealand.\u00a0 In just 40 years Marlborough has become synonymous with the world\u2019s finest Sauvignon Blanc.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The other main growing regions in the South Island are Otago, the most southerly wine region in the world, where growing conditions can be extreme and some of the wines particularly the Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris can be sublime.\u00a0 On the North Island the largest grape growing areas are in Gisborne and Auckland.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">TheWinePlace.es always has excellent wines from New Zealand such as Fromm and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sileni.co.nz\">Sileni Estates<\/a> and Gladstone Vineyards. Currently we have two wines from Marlborough New Zealand from the Yealands Estate.\u00a0 Peter Yealand\u2019s dream of building a biodynamic, carbon zero winery and estate have become a reality.\u00a0 Check out the Yealands Estate Pinot Noir and Sauvignon here.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Runners Up &#8211; Australia<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Australian national rugby team are known as the Wallabies, the countries emblem.\u00a0 Australians are sporting mad.\u00a0 It is of great credit to the Wallabies to produce such fine rugby teams given that it not the first choice sport for most Australian kids to play.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In terms of wine, like in New Zealand, the first grapes were planted by European settlers in the 19th century.\u00a0 From the 1980\u2019s Australia\u2019s wine industry began to take off as they focussed on exports to develop new markets for their wines.\u00a0 Today Australia is the 7th largest producer in the world, in terms of volume (source OIV Oct 2015).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Australia is best known for producing Shiraz and Chardonnay.\u00a0 Australia has several of the world\u2019s largest wine companies and some of the top individual wineries.
